Plant Needs

Happy Monday!  We started off our day by using the bingo daubers to paint flowers.

Then we played in the classroom.

During circle time, we read a silly story about a girl who found a pot with a sprout.  She told it to grow, but it didn't grow.  Then she decided it needed food so she gave it all sorts of food from her refrigerator - spaghetti, ice cream, and more!  Finally, she got upset and threw the pot outside.  There it got rained on, the wind blew on it, and the sun shone on it.  The plant began to grow!

This led to a discussion about what plants need to grow.  We learned that they need 5 different things to grow!  They are air, sunlight, water, space, and soil (nutrients).  Then we listened to a song about the needs of plants.

We practiced this new learning with some activities on the SMART Board.  Our favorite was a board game in which we rolled a die.  Each time we rolled a picture of something a plant needs to grow, we got to move our marker up one space.  There were some silly pictures, such as blankets and candy, which made us laugh because plants don't need those things!

During centers, we used the special wavy scissors to cut out several circles.  Then we sequenced the circles in a size pattern from biggest to smallest to make a marigold flower, just like the seeds we planted before Easter.

Ms. Palmer made flower leis with us.  We had a lot of fun patterning flower, straw, flower, straw.  Some of us also chose to make color patterns.

We also met our new feely phonic friend, red r, today.

We learned all sorts of words that start with Rr.  Many of them had to do with plants, such as roots, rose, and rain.  We even read a story that had many words that begin with the letter Rr.

Then we played outside.

In the afternoon, we also took a walk on the walking trail and looked at all different types of flowers.  Some were flowers from the flower beds and others were wild flowers.  We enjoyed picking wild flowers and dandelions.  Everyone was excited to find some violets!

Have a great evening!
