Applesauce Friday

Happy Friday!  We started off our day by reviewing the letter Ll and making leafy Ll's for our alphabet books.  Some of us even made patterns while working on our leafy Ll's!

Ms. Behnke read us a story about apples on the carpet.

Then we visited centers.  At Ms. Behnke's center, we used tissue paper to make suncatcher apples to hang on the office windows.

When we visited Miss McCabe's center, we worked on getting the apples ready for applesauce.  First we had to wash our hands.

Next we had to choose an apple to prepare.  We could choose a red, yellow, or green apple.  Green apples were the most popular.

Miss McCabe had a neat machine!  When you turn the handle, it peels the apples and helps take out the core, stems, and seeds.  We had so much fun looking at the different parts of an apple!  The apple skin was long like a snake!

Then we had to break our apples into small pieces so that they would cook faster!
The applesauce had to cook for a LONG time - we had to wait until the end of each session to eat our snack!  We also had to check on it often.  Each of us got a turn to help stir it.

Once the applesauce was finished, we had to let it cool.  Then we were able to stir in cinnamon if we wanted it.  Finally it was time to eat it!  It tasted delicious and made our classroom smell wonderful!

We also explored a variety of other activities during centers and playtime.

We also did our letter Ll mystery bags today.  There were many great items, such as a llama, Lego, leaf, and Lifesavers!  We are enjoying giving clues, asking questions, and guessing what items may be in the mystery bags!
Have a great weekend!  Remember to wear silly socks to school on Monday! :)
