Ms. Behnke read us the story Fire Engine Man.
We also played a game called "What's Missing?" where we had to look carefully at a picture and figure out what was missing on each page. This was a great activity to work on vocabulary and memory skills!
After reviewing colors, we went to centers. At Ms. Behnke's center, we made fire trucks! First we had to glue several rectangles together to create a ladder for our fire trucks. Then we had to find the letters in our name and sequence them onto our fire trucks. That was very tricky! We also had to cut out our fire trucks! Whew! It was hard work!
It was fun to listen to everybody working at independent centers!
Computer center
Art center - The children discovered how to copy down friend's names to make cards and gifts for classmates! Miss McCabe was very lucky today because she received piles full of special artwork! :)
Writing center - Some of us discovered the clipboards and walked around the room writing letters, words, and numbers!
Math and surprise centers - Some children chose to pretend to be a teacher and helped their classmates practice numbers, shapes, and colors!
Playdough center - We had fun stamping the letters in our names and finding the letters Ff to stamp into the playdough!
ABC Center - It was fun listening to the children making the /f/ sound while looking for letter Ff magnets!
Puzzles center
After snack, we had playtime. The sensory table and fire station were still very popular!
Miss McCabe read us the book Fire Truck! since many of us wanted to read it again! Then we learned the nursery rhyme "Jack Be Nimble." We were silly and substituted our names in the place of Jack. When our name was shown, we were able to jump over the candlestick! Of course we talked about why it wouldn't be a good idea to jump over a real candlestick!
Then we went outside. Ms. Behnke set up a firefighter obstacle course for us to complete! We had to run in and out of the cones, do jumping jacks, jump in hula hoops, crawl under smoke, and stop, drop, and roll! It was quite a workout! We even got to try climbing up a pretend ladder! It was so much fun!
Tomorrow we will make a special firefighter ladder snack! Remember that book orders are due tomorrow! Several children are hoping to have their own copy of Pete the Cat! Have a great evening!
