Gingerbread Dough

Happy Monday!  Everyone was so eager to come to school today and tell me all sorts of exciting news from the weekend!  We started off our day by looking at books.

We got right to work on making our gingerbread dough!  After washing our hands, we each got a special card that told us our job to do.  We had to identify the number on our card and count so we knew whose turn it was!  Some of the jobs were helping Miss McCabe use the mixer and measuring ingredients.

Our gingerbread dough needed to be cooled overnight so tomorrow we will roll it out with rolling pins and cut out our gingerbread men!  We are VERY excited to do this!  You may want to send your child to school in old clothes tomorrow as sometimes we get a little carried away with the flour! :)

We will be reading different versions of the gingerbread man all week long.  In secret, we have already been learning about the gingerbread man because there is a special gingerbread man song that we will sing for you during the 4K Holiday Program!  Here is a video of a song summarizing the story.  (It's not the same song we will be singing for you though - we wouldn't want to spoil the surprise!)

Today we especially liked reading the story The Gingerbread Pirates!

We got into the story so much that when Ms. Palmer was making gingerbread ornaments with us, many of us chose to make pirate gingerbread ornaments!  Ms. Palmer was kind enough to help us make swords and pirate hats for our gingerbread men!

Miss McCabe played a gingerbread man board game with some of the children in the morning.  We worked on colors, counting, and number recognition while playing this game.

In the afternoon session, we finally got to paint our murals to display for the 4K Holiday Program!

We spent some time playing too!  Miss McCabe started to set up a special gingerbread/cookie bakery for dramatic play.  Even though it is still a work in progress, we enjoyed playing in it tremendously today!

We also met our new feely phonic friend - caterpillar c!

Please remember to send in the snowman family project tomorrow!  Quite a few have already come in and I can say that there are some very neat ones - there's even a Grinch snowman!  I'm looking forward to show-n-tell tomorrow when we can all tell about our snowmen projects!  Have a great evening!
