We talked more about the letter Ii today. Miss McCabe read the story The Three Snow Bears by Jan Brett. This story is a little bit like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In the story, Aloo-ki, an Inuit girl, loses her sled dogs. As she searches for them, she comes to an igloo and can't resist going inside. Everybody laughed at the silly voices Miss McCabe used for the polar bears!
We also used our good problem-solving skills to help Miss McCabe figure out which snowman was Sammy. Miss McCabe gave us clues that we had to listen to carefully.
Then we searched for certain snowflake letters.
We completed quite a few projects today too! We used one-to-one correspondence while making igloos. First we had to put a line of glue on each rectangle. Then we had to put a styrofoam peanut on each rectangle. It was trickier than it sounds!
We made igloo Ii's for our alphabet books. First we had to cut out the rectangle ice blocks. Then we had to glue them to make the letter Ii. Finally we got to use special glitter paint to make our igloo Ii's sparkle!
We also were excited to bring home our countdown Santa's. Each night we can put on a cottonball. When his beard is filled, then it is Christmas! This is a great activity to do together at home each night to work on number recognition and counting and the best part is that it only takes about 5 minutes to do each night!
Then we played!
In the afternoon, we acted out the song "Five Little Snowmen." It was a lot of fun and we even got to wear our hats while we sang! When Miss McCabe shone the sun (flashlight) on us, we got to melt!
Please remember that the ingredients for our gingerbread cookies are due tomorrow! We are excited to bake gingerbread men at school!
