Welcome back! I hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving! There was excitement in our classroom when we arrived at school today because there is now a Christmas tree in our classroom! Although there is no snow on the ground, we started to prepare for the winter season by exploring snowmen! For arrival, we made name snowmen.
We also used homemade puffy paint (a mixture of shaving cream and glue) to make snowmen.
Then we played with the toys.
Since our tree was bare when we got to school, some children choose to work on making decorations to hang on the tree during playtime and centers. By the end of the day, our tree was starting to look very nice with all the decorations we made to hang on it!
We read some snowmen stories together and reviewed vocabulary while playing a snowman "What's Missing?" game.
The book Snowballs by Lois Ehlert was an especially interesting book! We enjoyed looking at all the different items she used to make a snow dad, snow mom, snow boy, snow girl, snow baby, snow cat, and snow dog! Look in your child's folder to find a snowman project to do inspired by this great book! I'm sure your child has many great ideas for how to decorate his/her snow person or snow animal!
Ms. Palmer came in for centers today! We made our own snowmen to put in a class book. After making our snowmen, we had to tell our snowmen's names, where they live, and what they like to do.
Miss McCabe also played a silly game with us called "Snowman Brrrr!" where we worked on a skill that we needed extra practice with, such as colors, shapes, numbers, letters, or letter sounds! There were silly cards mixed in that made us laugh! We had to pretend to melt, ice skate around the table, eat a snowball (mini marshmallow), hop like a rabbit to collect other player's cards, and other funny things. It was so much fun that I'm sure we will be playing it more throughout the week! Since Miss McCabe was so busy playing with us, she forgot to take pictures of us playing the silly game!
We also spent some time at independent centers.
Miss McCabe has been teaching us about what an author and illustrator does. We are also starting to see ourselves as being authors and illustrators. At the writing center, some of us are starting to make our own books. When we finish a book, we can sit in Miss McCabe's chair and read it to the rest of the class! This has been a great motivator! We especially like copying words we see in the classroom into our books.
Our new feely phonic friend, igloo i, was also introduced today! We learned that the letter Ii is kind of tricky because it makes two different sounds! Then we looked at some pictures. If they began with an Ii, we put them on an igloo.
Have a great evening!
