Blast Off!

We have been enjoying our arrival activities this week!  The children have enjoyed coloring monsters/aliens, telling stories about their monsters/aliens in their journals, and creating numbers using pattern blocks.

Ms. Behnke read us the story On the Launchpad: A Counting Book About Rockets.  While reading this story, we practiced counting many different objects.  There were also hidden numbers on each page.  We had so much fun looking for the hidden numbers!

We got to do an exciting activity during centers!  First, we decorated our own rockets!  Then we went outside.  When we took the cover off of our rockets, we were able to fill them with water.  Then we dropped in half of an effervescent tablet and put the cover on quickly.  Guess what happened next!  Our rockets flew up into the air!  It was so neat!  We found out that if you put in too much water, it won't work well.  If you don't put in enough water, then the rockets won't go very high up.  The cover also needs to be put on tight in order to work!

We also learned how to play a rocket bowling game today!  It was fun to count how many rockets we were able to knock down.

During independent centers, we also were able to use the SMART Board to practice drawing the strokes needed for writing to the song "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush."

Other activities we did during independent centers include...
 Coloring at the writing center

 Games and puzzles center

Being creative at the art center

 Computer center

 ABC (literacy) center

 Playdough center
(We especially liked finding the letters in our names to stamp in the playdough!)

 Listening center

 Math center

While transitioning to snack, we enjoyed singing our number songs using the SMART Board again!
During playtime, we played in a variety of areas!

We also played outside today.

Then we reviewed the story Mouse Paint that we read yesterday.  While reviewing colors, we played a mouse colors memory game together on the carpet.

We had a little bit of extra time to dance to the Pete the Cat story too!  What a busy, exciting day! :)
