Today we spent some time focusing on the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle." We started off our day by coloring our own "Hey Diddle Diddle" booklets to take home and read to our families.
We read a silly "Hey Diddle Diddle" book together. The silly cow used a pogo stick to jump over the moon!
Then we got to pretend to be cows and try to jump over the moon. We made a graph of who landed on the moon and who jumped over the moon. It was a lot of fun!
We did centers again today and are doing a fantastic job! Some of us visited the writing center.
Some of us visited the puzzles center!
We played a "Hey Diddle Diddle" game that worked on counting and one-to-one correspondence. You can print your own copy of the game to play at home from my website: http://www.meemeleads.org/4k/outerspace.cfm
The children learned how to use the math center and some of us had fun exploring all of the materials at the math center!
We also learned how to use the playdough center! That was by far our favorite center of the day!
Today we got to use our snack mats for the first time and even learned how to wash them when we are done eating! Then it was playtime! There were many different toys that we explored today!
Then we got to use the parachute! We were having so much fun with it that everybody was sad when it was time to put it away! First we explored how to make waves. Then we practiced making it into a tent and sitting under it. Finally we pretended to be astronauts jumping on the moon. When it was our turn to be an astronaut, we got to jump in the middle of the parachute while our friends made big waves!
Then we got to use the SMART Board! We each got a turn to draw on the SMART Board! Each of us also used our notebooks to practice drawing lines while singing the song "Here We Go Around the Mulberry Bush." This helps us to learn the lines we will need to make when we are learning to write our names! It was a very soothing activity! Miss McCabe drew the lines on the SMART Board while the children drew their lines in their journals. You can also try this at home. Here is the link to get the words and lines to draw for each verse: http://www.meemeleads.org/4k/welcometoschool.cfm
The children have been requesting to read/sing the Pete the Cat story daily so we have also been trying to squeeze that in when we can! In the near future, I will be introducing a new Pete the Cat story that is sure to become a class favorite too and the great news is that this story will be available in the October book orders that will be sent home the first week in October! Remember that the September book orders are due tomorrow!
Thanks to everybody that came to the Spaghetti Supper tonight! It was great to see all the families come to support our school! Have a great evening! :)
