Shape Rockets

Today was a nice, relaxing Monday!  We started off the day with our arrival activities.  Some of us colored alien/monster pictures, others drew and told stories about monsters/aliens in their journals, and another group explored forming numbers using pattern blocks!

We read the story There Was a Bold Lady Who Wanted a Star.  In the story, the bold lady tried all different forms of transportation, but she needed a rocket in the end to get to the star.
Ms. Behnke helped teach us how to play the board game Candy Land.  This game will be put in the games center for us to play during independent centers.  Some of the children chose to play this game during playtime today!
We worked on our shapes today while making shape rockets.  To make our rockets, we needed to cut out a square, rectangle, and triangle before gluing the shapes together onto our papers.  Finally, we used our good counting skills to count out the same number of stars as our age (either 4 or 5) to add to our pictures!

As we finished our shape rocket projects, we got to dance along to some number and shape songs on the SMART Board!  It was a lot of fun!

We even got to make a shape rocket snack to eat!  Everybody was excited to realize that if you put two squares together, they make a rectangle!  If you cut a square in a diagonal, you can make a triangle!  The snack was delicious!  Thank you to everyone that donated materials for this snack!  It was greatly enjoyed by everyone!

We got to have a longer playtime today since it was a little wet and rainy outside!  Miss McCabe put cottonball clouds and airplanes in the sensory table.  The morning session enjoyed playing with the dolls and doctor toys.  In the afternoon, we played in several different areas.  Ms. Behnke put some new space games on the SMART Board during playtime that some of us played.  You can visit the website by going to: http://www.kidsastronomy.com/

We went into the gym today.  Miss McCabe taught us how to play "Red Light, Green Light."  We did a great job of using our good listening ears to play the game!  It was so much fun that we didn't want to stop! :)
Miss McCabe also spent some time reviewing colors again!  We read the story Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh.  You can watch a video of the story below!

Miss McCabe even had her own colored mice, just like in the story!  We were all so excited to get to pet them!

Of course, we also made some time to read our all-time favorite story of Pete the Cat!  Have a great evening!
