Then we read a silly story about some dogs in space! The dogs visited all the different planets, but found something wrong on each planet. Mars was too dusty and Mercury was too hot. In the end, the dogs found that Earth is the best planet! Then we pretended to go to outer space ourselves! We listened to the song "An Adventure in Outer Space" by Greg & Steve and acted out the song. It was so much fun! We had to put on our space suits, buckle up, float in space, dodge meteors, and help land safely back on Earth!
A new center was introduced - the art center! It was extremely popular today! We got to cut, glue, and create some neat projects. Some of us made cards while others made bracelets. We even got to use the fancy scissors, foam shapes, and all sorts of other neat materials! Miss McCabe even taught us how to make paper snakes at this center! We also learned how to use the glue bottle so that there aren't big puddles of glue by saying, "Dot, dot, not a lot." In fact, this center was so much fun that many children also chose to go there during free play! This center is definitely a winner! :)
We also got to use trays of watercolor paints today! Miss McCabe helped remind us to dip our brushes in water before switching colors! We cut out large circles to be our planets and then painted them. When we were done painting, we told our stories about our planets to Ms. Behnke. She typed our stories for us! There were some very creative stories!
We also spent time at some of the other centers that were already introduced.
Playdough
Math center
Puzzles and games center
Books and listening center
Writing center
Planet beanbag toss
We washed our hands really well. Miss McCabe taught the afternoon class to sing the ABC song while washing their hands so we can remember how long we need to wash for to get rid of all those icky sick germs! Then we made a special colorful pudding snack to go along with the story Dog's Colorful Day that we have read throughout the week. First we had to make the pudding! The milk was white, but when we added the pudding mix, it magically turned yellow! Then we needed some colorful spots so we added some m&m's as our spots and reviewed the colors we were adding. Everyone was excited that when we stirred the m&m's into the pudding in our cups, it changed colors! Some puddings turned orange, others green, and some had swirls of different colors! It was neat!
We also played a game on the SMART Board where we spun the spinner to see what color spot to move towards Dog so we could give him more colorful spots! It was a great way to practice our colors!
Playtime was spent mainly in the art center, but some of us ventured into home living, the listening center, and even to play with the train set. Some children in the morning session were trying to make Miss McCabe scared by pretending to be witches!
We also spent some time playing outside!
Have a fantastic weekend! :)
