Animal Teeth

For our arrival activity, we made Queen Qq's for our alphabet booklets.

During circle time, we learned that our teeth can give us information about the foods we eat.  Animals with sharp, pointy teeth eat meat.  They are carnivores.  Animals with flat teeth eat plants.  They are called herbivores.  People have both pointy and flat teeth.  We eat both meat and plants so we are omnivores.  Everybody had fun listing different animals and trying to decide what kind of teeth they had.

Then we read a story about a shark that lost its tooth.  Did you know that sharks keep growing new sets of teeth their entire lives?!  We learned that.  People only grow two sets of teeth - our baby teeth and our adult teeth.  We talked about how it is important to take good care of the teeth that we have because we can't keep growing new teeth like sharks.

During centers, we did a shark tooth counting activity.  We rolled a die and that told us how many teeth to put in the top of the shark's mouth.  Then we rolled the die again to find out how many teeth to put in the bottom of the shark's mouth.  Finally, we recorded how many total teeth were in the shark's mouth.

We worked on sequencing teeth numbers from 1 to 10 independently.

We also played the dental health game with those that did not get a turn yesterday due to time restrictions.

There were birthday celebrations in both sessions so we sang "Happy Birthday" and ate special treats.  Thank you!  I hope you had a great birthday!

We got out the birthday toys during playtime.

We talked about how we will lose our baby teeth when we get a little bit bigger.  Then we played a tooth fairy game using our tooth fairy wands from yesterday.  When the tooth fairy's eyes were closed, someone got to hold a tooth behind their back.  Then the tooth fairy had to try to guess who was holding the tooth.  It was a lot of fun!

In the afternoon, we also did the counting jar and heard about Brownie's adventures.

Please remember that there will be no 4K on Thursday due to the early release and parent-teacher conferences.  I look forward to meeting everyone during conferences and will see the 4K students again on Monday!  Enjoy the long weekend!

**Monday is the start of Read Across America week!  Please note that there is a special dress-up day each day next week.  Monday is hat day!  I look forward to seeing everyone's silly hats!
