We played with the toys. There were dinosaurs and moon sand in the sensory table, which was popular in the afternoon session. Many of us were also excited to see that our classroom got a set of laptops and we couldn't wait to use them! We enjoyed playing some Dr. Seuss games at: www.seussville.com
We met our new feely phonic friend, dinosaur d, today.
We pretended that we were paleontologists digging in the dirt for dinosaurs. Everybody enjoyed closing their eyes to "dig for dinosaurs" and then placing them on a landscape.
Then we learned that Dr. Seuss is an author of many silly books for children. It is his birthday this week and that is why we are doing all sorts of silly things all week. Everyone was excited to realize that Dr. Seuss also starts with the letter D. We will read some of his stories all week. Today we started off by reading Dr. Seuss' ABC. Click below to listen to the story.
Everyone also enjoyed listening to Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat while eating snack.
During centers, we colored our own Thing 1 or Thing 2 to hang up in the gym for our upcoming Dr. Seuss family night. To be silly, we are going to glue our pictures in the faces of Thing 1 and Thing 2!
Ms. Palmer also played a Cat in the Hat game with us. We had to draw cards to tell us how many and what color chips to use to build the cat's hat. It was a lot of fun to see how tall we could make his hat and was great practice with counting, as well as color and number recognition!
Then we had a special visitor come to our classroom. Her name is Missy and she is a dental hygienist. She helped us learn more about taking good care of our teeth. First she taught us many neat things about our teeth on the carpet. She even had a fish puppet that helped us learn how to brush our teeth using "cheerios" or small, circular strokes.
Next came the fun part! We went to the tables and used a special paint made just for our teeth. Using mirrors, we painted our teeth a pink or red color. We looked silly! :)
We pretended that the special paint on our teeth represented those icky cavity-causing germs that we don't want. Then we took our toothbrushes and practiced brushing away those icky germs while making "cheerio" strokes. Our teeth were shiny and white afterwards!
Missy even let us brush the fish puppet's teeth and a set of teeth on the carpet in the afternoon.
Thank you for visiting our classroom, Missy! We had so much fun with you!
Remember that tomorrow is pajama day! Everyone is excited to have another pajama day at school! :)
