Sharks!

Happy Friday!  For our arrival activity, we made stingrays to display at school since we were so fascinated by them when we saw them swimming on the aquarium webcam that we watched on Monday.

We had fun playing.  In the morning, we pretended to be puppies.  Everyone was barking so loudly that Mr. Wolfenberg, our assistant principal, had to visit our classroom to see what happened to all the children!  He tried to make the puppies do tricks, but said that they needed to go to puppy school so one child became the dog trainer and helped to train the puppies to do tricks!

We read some shark stories.  Everybody remembered that a baby shark is called a pup!  We also learned that sharks keep growing new teeth their whole entire life!

We worked on counting and number recognition while playing a shark game on the SMART Board.

During centers, we made our own sharks out of an envelope!  Then we played a game that reviewed letters.  It was so much fun to make our sharks eat the letter fish!  This activity was an entertaining way to work on letters and I would highly encourage you to make the time to do this activity together at home!  A note explaining the activity with some letter fish attached was sent home with your child today!

Ms. Palmer played a shark counting game with some students in the morning session.

We also visited independent centers.

We also began to work on making our valentine holders!

The children were so excited about the different shark stories we had in our classroom!  There wasn't enough time to read them all, but the children pleaded with me to read at least one more.  We held a vote to see which book to read.  In the morning session, the winner was Don't Eat the Teacher! while the winner in the afternoon was Shark in the Dark.

Enjoy the weekend! :)
