We started off our day by sorting seashells and talking about which type had the most and least. Some of us also colored our seashells after we were done sorting.
During circle time, we talked about how people don't have gills like fish. We learned that people are mammals. Did you know that whales, dolphins, and manatees are also mammals? They need to come up for air. We sorted some animals by whether they are a fish or mammal.
We talked about what scuba divers and snorkelers need to wear in the ocean. Miss McCabe even showed us pictures of herself scuba diving and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef! To review new vocabulary, such as snorkel, face mask, and swim fins, we played a "What's Missing? Snorkeler" game. We also read a story about a boy who pretended to look for treasure in the ocean.
For art, we made our own snorkelers to display!
After snack, we played!
We also spent some time talking about whales. Whales are the largest ocean animal in the world! They can be bigger than our hallway! There are many different types of whales. We learned the song "Baby Beluga." Click below to hear the song.
We danced to the song with beluga whale puppets.
We also played the "I have... Who has..." letter identification game again.
Then it was time to play outside in the fresh air!
We are beginning to get excited about our upcoming Valentine's Day party. As your valentines are completed, please send them in! It makes it easier to pass them out as they come in so that it doesn't take as much time passing them out on our special party day! There is still an open slot in the afternoon session for a special snack for our Valentine's Day party. If you would like to send something in for snack, please let me know!
Have a fantastic evening! :)
