Pirate Day!

Land ho!  We had an adventurous pirate day today!  After completing our letter Xx arrival activity, we took a pirate picture for our memory books.

Then we read a pirate story!  It was about a boy who got to become a pirate.  He loved being a pirate until he found out all the things a pirate doesn't do, such as read bedtime stories, give goodnight kisses, and tuck each other into bed.  We talked about whether we would miss bedtime stories and goodnight kisses.  Many of us agreed that it would be fun to be a pirate for a day, but not forever.  Click below to listen to the story!

We practiced rhyming while singing a pirate song.  Click below to hear a similar version of the song.

Another song we sang was "Goin' on a Treasure Hunt," which was similar to the bear hunt and spooky walk songs we learned earlier in the year.  Click below for other fun pirate songs!

After all of our wiggles were out, we visited centers.  The groups rotated to a new center from yesterday: X marks the spot number game, letter Xx pokey pinning, or making valentine totes.  When we finished, then we got to choose an independent center to visit, such as computer, writing center, and playdough.

We all went on a pirate treasure hunt to find the letter X.  It was a giant life-size board game complete with planks so we could practice "walking the plank!"  After rolling the die, we had to count the spaces as we moved.  If we landed on a crocodile, we had to complete an activity so he wouldn't try to eat us!  Some of the activities were silly, such as flapping our arms and quacking like a duck.  Other activities had us counting backwards, singing our ABC's, and spelling our names.  When we reached the X, we got to choose a pirate treasure from the treasure chest!

After a delicious snack, we played.  Some of us built a pirate ship from blocks and practiced "walking the plank."  Others dug for buried treasure in the sensory table.  Yet others played in the seafood restaurant.  We were all so busy and absorbed in our play today!

We got to hear about Brownie's adventures over the weekend!

The counting jar came back.  In the morning, there were sports balls to count.  In the afternoon, we counted packs of fruit snacks.  Then we ended our day with one more pirate story!

We played outside in the afternoon too!  Tag was a popular activity outside today!

Remember that book orders are due on Thursday!  Have a great evening! :)
