Octopus

We had a busy day today!  Our day started off by making an orange octopus Oo page for our alphabet booklets.  We were fascinated to learn how to curl the octopus tentacles using our pencils!

During circle time, we read a story about an octopus and learned all sorts of neat facts!  Did you know that an octopus doesn't have any bones in its body?  See what your child can tell you about the octopus!

We also did some patterning together on the carpet as a large group.  Everybody enjoyed reading the story Pattern Fish together while reviewing patterns.

Then we went to the tables to practice patterning on our own!  First we had to cut out an octopus.  It was tricky cutting, but we all did a fantastic job!  Then we used Fruit Loops and glued them on the octopus tentacles in a pattern.

In the morning, we ate cheerio's since they are shaped like the letter O.  In the afternoon, we had a special birthday treat.  Then we played!  The morning session especially enjoyed pretending to be dogs and cats.  They were busy building houses for the dogs and cats.  The afternoon session enjoyed playing with the birthday toys.

We also continued to work on tying knots to make the tentacles on our jellyfish.

To end the day, we played a fun game that was a little bit like "duck, duck, goose."  This game helped us practice letter identification.  When it was our turn, we drew a letter card.  Then we walked around the circle chanting the following song and having our classmates repeat it back:

Miss McCabe over the ocean
Miss McCabe over the sea
Miss McCabe caught an O
But you can't catch me!

Then we would tap a person to chase us around the circle!  It was so much fun!

Enjoy the home day tomorrow!  See you on Thursday!
