We read two different versions of the story We're Going on a Lion Hunt. After reading them, we discussed the similarities and differences between the two books. We also compared the stories to the bear hunt story and song we learned back in January. There were a lot of similarities, but also some differences.
Today we made our own lions. We worked on patterning while making the lion's mane.
We also enjoyed a story about a lion named Leo that wanted to love all of the other animals instead of eat them. His family made him leave their pride until he could learn to hunt. Instead of hunting, Leo spent his time helping all of the animals that ran into trouble. One day Leo runs into trouble. All of the animals that he helped came to the rescue. The story helped foster some discussion about why it is important to be a good friend to others.
There were some birthday celebrations in both sessions today. We are beginning to celebrate some of those summer birthdays. After eating some special birthday treats, we got out the birthday toys. Several children chose to play "birthday party" during playtime today.
Now that we know all of our letters, our alphabet books are complete! We spent some time looking at them and remembering all of the special ways we decorated each letter. Today we got to bring our alphabet books home! We will spend the remaining days of the school year reviewing all of the letters.
Today we also sorted animals by whether they live on the farm or at the zoo.
We also spent some time talking about our zoo field trip on Thursday! We can't wait! Did you know that zoos have rules too? We talked about good zoo etiquette and why it is important. We know that we should use quiet voices, refrain from pounding on windows, walk on sidewalks, and throw our garbage in the trash can. We also learned why it is important not to feed the animals unless we get permission from a zookeeper. Curious George helped us to learn why! We also read a story about how the zookeepers and animals prepare for children to visit the zoo.
On Thursday, your child needs to wear walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather. You may want to put sunscreen on your child as we will be outside the entire time! We are excited that our special T-shirts are complete and plan to wear them on our field trip before taking them home!
To end the day, we played outside!
Have a great evening! :)
Love the Shirts! Brenda Riesterer
