Zoo Animals

Happy Monday!  We started off our day by making zoo animal headbands.  Every child chose an animal to color and cut out.  We used the headbands later in the day to go with a story!

Then we played.  The children were especially excited to play with the zoo animals in the sensory table!

During playtime, some children spontaneously decided to draw out their plans for what to build with the blocks on the dry erase boards.

Some friends also played in the home living area.

During circle time, we met Zookeeper Bob.  Each day he will leave us a note to help us learn something new about the zoo or zoo animals.  Today he helped us learn that animals do talk, but not with words like people.  The sounds they make are how they communicate with one another.

We wore our animal headbands while reading Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? by Bill Martin Jr.  When our animal was named, we got to make the sound that our animal makes.  It was a lot of fun to pretend to be an animal!

During centers, we played zoo animal sound bingo.  We had to listen to different animal sounds and try to identify the animal that was making that sound.  If it was on our card, we covered it up with a zoo animal fruit snack.

We also made giant zookeepers!  They were almost as big as us!  Tomorrow we will do a journal activity to put inside our zookeeper shirts.

The letter Zz was introduced today.  We only have one more letter left to learn!   After meeting our feely phonic friend, zebra z, we learned about some new words that start with Zz, such as zucchini, zoo, zigzag, zipper, and zero.

We had a little bit of extra time in the afternoon so we got out our wiggles while listening and dancing to The Animal Boogie.

Everyone also had a great time helping to clean our classroom!  We each got a special wipe to use and helped scrub toys, doorknobs, chairs, and tables.  Afterwards we looked to see who was the best cleaner by looking at which rag was the dirtiest!  What great helpers there are in 4K! :)

Then we ended our day by playing outside!

Remember to wear apparel from your favorite sport's team tomorrow!  Have a great evening!
