Spring Weather

Our arrival activity today was coloring a spring booklet.  After everyone was at school and settled in, we read through the book together.  We are getting to be such good readers!  Many of the children knew that the title of the booklet was "Spring."  Way to go, 4K students!

During circle time, we talked about signs of spring or ways that we knew spring was here.  We came up with all sorts of signs of spring, such as seeing robins, rain instead of snow, flowers blooming, butterflies, and so much more!

The children spent some time talking about rainy weather with the substitute teacher on Monday and Tuesday.  Today we talked some about the wind.  We brainstormed items that the wind may blow, such as leaves, a hat, or a kite.  Then we read some stories together.  One was about different items that the wind blew.

We also read a silly story about a super hero duck.  The duck tried all sorts of things to get the kite to fly, but it wouldn't fly because there was no wind.  Suddenly a gust of wind picks up the kite along with a frog.  The Super Duck needs to come to the rescue to help save his friend!  We laughed a lot while reading this story!

Then we did an experiment!  Miss McCabe turned on a fan.  We put different objects in front of the fan to see whether or not the fan could blow them.  Items like a kite, cottonballs, paper, and streamers were blown by the fan.  Heavier items were not able to be blown by the fan.  We had a lot of fun trying to figure out which items the fan would blow!

We made our own kites today!  Everyone cut out a diamond shape, which also happens to be the shape we have been focusing on all month.  Then we attached a streamer tail and cut out some bows.  Finally we used the bingo daubers to make a pattern on our kites.  They look wonderful hanging up in our classroom!

We also painted our hands for a special project!

After snack, we played.  The children were very excited about the sensory table!  It was filled with water.  There were funnels, containers for pouring, and PVC pipes.  The children enjoyed building different structures with the PVC pipes and then pouring water through it into a mill with wheels that turned.  It was very exciting!

We reviewed letters while playing a game on the SMART Board.  Our job was to try to figure out which letter umbrella Uncle Ugbee was hiding under.  It was a lot of fun!

Everyone had so much fun with this game and since it was rainy, we ended up playing another game on the SMART Board.  This one had shape clouds.  The children had to try to figure out which shape cloud the kite was hiding behind.

To end the day, we did some songs together.  We still love the "Humpty Dumpty" song and also sang "If All the Raindrops" since it was a rainy day.  Our newest favorite song is "Down by the Bay."  We love coming up with new silly rhymes to sing!

Have a great evening! :)
