Ducks!

We started off our Monday by coloring our March nursery rhyme to put in our journals.  We are getting good at reciting this nursery rhyme!

Then we played with the toys!  We were excited to find ducks in the sensory table.  They were neat because the ducks were like a tricky, floating memory game!  There were also ducks in the the blocks center so many of us built ponds and bathtubs out of blocks for the ducks.  The computers were also popular!  We played some duck literacy games on www.pbskids.org.

We did our daily message together.

Then we spent some time talking about ducks.  We learned about the duck life cycle.  While reading a book, the children quickly noticed that the baby duckling did not have the same color feathers as its mother.  We talked about how baby ducklings are born with fluffy feathers.  As they grow bigger, they lose their fluffy feathers and grow their adult feathers.  The adult feathers will make them look more like their mom or dad.

We also read a story with real pictures of ducks.  Everyone was excited to see that the author signed the book!

For centers, everybody got a turn to go with Ms. Palmer.  We practiced retelling, acting out, and sequencing the story Have You Seen My Duckling?

The children also visited either the writing center where they wrote about their favorite part of the day, computers, or the math center where they counted and cut out 5 ducklings for their pond before writing numbers 1-5.

Some of us played a letter or number duck bingo game.  Others visited independent centers.

In the afternoon, we spread jelly on crackers for snack.  One child brought in several mini containers of jelly in his letter Jj mystery bag for us to use!  It was a delicious treat and spreading the jelly on the crackers was a great fine motor skill!

We also learned the song "Little White Duck."

Our new feely phonic letter, yellow y, was also introduced.  We learned many new words that start with y, such as yak, yogurt, and yield.

We also heard about Brownie's adventures over the weekend in the morning and shared some stories we wrote at the writing center in the afternoon.

Then we played outside.  It was a lot chillier than last week!  Please make sure to dress your child appropriately for the weather outside when sending him/her to school!

Have a good evening!
