Turtle Suncatchers

Happy Friday!  We started off our day by writing in our journals about where we planned to play.

Then we played with the toys.

We used the dry erase boards to write our daily message together again.

During circle time, we learned about the differences between a turtle and tortoise.  We also reviewed why a turtle's shell is so important.  The story we read today helped to reinforce why a turtle or tortoise shell is important.  It was about a silly tortoise that was tired of carrying his heavy shell on his back so he took it off and encountered all kinds of problems, finally realizing how important his shell is!

During centers, we made our own suncatcher turtles with beautiful shells.  We did a lot of cutting.  Then we painted our shells with glue and stuck on different shades of green and brown tissue paper.  Finally we painted over the tissue paper one more time with the glue to make it nice and strong.  They will look beautiful displayed in our classroom windows!

We also worked on number identification while playing a turtle roll and color game.

Ms. Palmer played a turtle shape game with some students.

We also have been enjoying independent centers.  Most days we visit them, but I do not always get around to get pictures of the children at independent centers since I am working with small groups.  I did get just a few pictures from math and ABC independent centers in the morning.

Then we read another turtle story in both sessions.  In the morning, we shared some books that were written at the writing center during centers and did the counting jar.  In the afternoon, we did a rhyming mystery bag.

We ended our day by playing outside.

Have a great weekend! :)
