Then we played. Blocks have been especially popular as of late.
During circle time, we read a story about a duckling named Dilly. One day the wind blew one of Dilly's feathers away. He chased it with the help of some friends, but it always managed to get away. When Dilly's mom found out, she nicely explained that it is alright because Dilly will be growing new grown-up feathers.
We got out feathers and used them to dance to a feather song! In the song, we had to touch different body parts with the feathers. It tickled a lot! The ending was so much fun because we got to blow on our feathers to make them fly up in the air. Then we tried catching them! It was a lot of silly fun so we had to do the song at least 3 times! Of course, the children wanted to take their feathers home with them too!
Today we also planted marigold seeds. First we decorated our containers. Then we put in soil, seeds, and watered them. We can't wait for the flowers to grow!
To end the day, we read a story about a silly fox! He tried to tell the mama duck that he was a duck so that he could eat her ducklings. Instead the mama duck ended up tricking him by making him prove he was a duck and do silly things like play in the mud, eat bugs, and dive in the water. The fox ended up not liking to do those things and finally gave up pretending to be a duck. Silly fox!
Due to the rainy weather, we didn't make it outside. Instead we acted out the song "Five Little Ducks." It was so much fun to get to hide from the mama duck when it was our turn - and it was a great visual way to reinforce taking one away or counting backwards! They kept asking to do it again so it was definitely a "big hit" in our classroom!
Have a great weekend!
