Pond Introduction

Happy Monday!  We started off our day with playtime.  In the afternoon, several children especially enjoyed hunting for pond animals hidden in the blue Easter grass.  They especially liked finding the snakes!

We began to learn about the pond and animals that may live in or near the pond.  Today we learned that an ocean is very big while a pond is much smaller.  Ponds have freshwater while oceans have salty water.  We brainstormed a list of animals that may live in a pond and then sorted animals by whether they live in a pond or ocean on the SMART Board.

Then we read some stories that introduced us to a variety of animals that live in the pond.  One of the stories was similar to the song of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm."

During centers, we independently sorted animals by whether they live in a pond or the ocean.

Ms. Palmer made a pond booklet with us.

Some of us also played a beaver letter game or a fish counting memory game with Miss McCabe.

Our day ended by reading a silly rhyming book.  We have been enjoying identifying all of the rhyming words that we hear in stories.  In the morning, we also have been enjoying making up new silly rhyming verses to the song "Down by the Bay."

Please remember that book orders are due tomorrow!  Have a great evening!
